Privacy notice
This explains what Uni Mock Interviews collects, why, who else is involved and how long it's kept. In short: we keep as little as we can, and your interview answers and recordings stay in your own browser.
Who's responsible for your data
Uni Mock Interviews is an independent practice tool, not connected to any university. It's run by its owner in the United Kingdom, who is responsible for your data under UK data protection law (the “controller”). To ask about your data, use the contact link at the bottom of the home page.
What we collect and why
| What | Why | Kept by |
|---|---|---|
| Your name and email address, from your Google account when you sign in | To create your account and keep you signed in | Stripe, as your customer record |
| Your plan, payments and how much marking you've used this month | To give you the access you've paid for and apply your plan's allowance | Stripe |
| When you agreed to the terms at checkout | To record that you asked for access to start straight away | Stripe, with your payment |
| Card details | To take payment | Stripe only. This site never sees your card number. |
| Interview answers, notes, history, settings, and your personal statement if you add one | To run the mock and show your results | Your own browser. They aren't sent to our server except as below. |
| Answer text, and your personal statement if you've added one, when you ask for marking, Live help or questions based on your statement | To write feedback and questions against the university's criteria | Sent through our server to Anthropic's Claude AI, and not stored by this site |
| Audio recordings, if you turn them on | So you can play back each station | Your own browser only, until you close the tab |
| A sign-in cookie | To keep you signed in for up to 30 days | Your browser |
The legal reasons we use it
- To provide what you asked for (contract): your account, your plan, and marking when you ask for it.
- To keep the site working fairly (legitimate interests): keeping accounts secure and making sure free mocks and marking allowances aren't misused.
- Because the law requires it (legal obligation): keeping payment records for tax.
How long it's kept
- Your account record is kept while you have an account. Ask us to delete it and we'll do so within 30 days.
- Payment records are kept for as long as UK tax law requires, usually up to six years.
- Answers sent for marking aren't stored by this site. Anthropic keeps them only briefly under its business terms and doesn't use them to train its AI.
- Anything in your browser stays until you clear it. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings deletes it.
If you're under 18
Many people who use this site are under 18, so we follow UK data protection law and the Information Commissioner's Children's Code (the Age Appropriate Design Code). That means we collect as little as possible, keep your answers in your own browser by default, show no adverts, don't sell or share your data for marketing, use no advertising or tracking cookies, and don't build a profile of you. You need to be 13 or over to use the site.
AI on this site
Marking and Live help come from Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, not from a person. Only what's needed for the feedback you ask for is sent (your answers, and your personal statement if you've added one), never your name or email.
Other services involved
- Google handles sign-in. Its sign-in button may set its own cookies when you use it.
- Stripe handles payments and keeps your customer record.
- Anthropic provides Claude, which writes the marking and Live help.
- Netlify hosts the site.
- Google Fonts supplies the site's typefaces, so Google sees your device's address when a page loads.
- Your browser's speech service (Google's in Chrome, Apple's in Safari) turns speech into text when you use the live transcript.
Some of these companies process data in the United States, under the safeguards UK law requires. The recorded interviewer voice is made in advance and stored on this site, so nothing about you is sent to make it.
Recording other people
If you record or transcribe a mock, you're recording the other person too. Ask them first.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the data held about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how it's used. To delete your account, contact us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
